Stay at Home Tea 2020 Card

Stay at Home Tea is an annual fundraiser held by Literacy Source, a non-profit organization in Seattle that offers small group and individualized instruction for adult learners in order to succeed in school, to find a job, to achieve life goals, and to create a better, more hopeful future.

The Stay at Home Tea is one of Literacy Source’s approach to invite their past and potential donors to make a donation.

Due to to the Covid-19 Pandemic, Literacy Source is forced to close their learning centers and transition to online virtual learning. Transitioning from face to face classes to an online learning environment can be very challenging for both students and educators.

This year’s Stay at Home Tea Cards are designed to highlight how Literacy Source is transitioning to online learning. I want to use the image of an online class to grab the donor’s attention.

I created an image of a person attending an online class using a laptop as the cover page. I also intentionally have a cup of tea in the image to emphasize the name of the fundraiser, “Stay at Home Tea”.

I realize that not everyone has access to a laptop or computer, so I also want to display the online class on a different device. For the inside of the card, I created an image of a hand holding a tablet to show a different point of view of the online learning environment.

Chris Potter (Literacy Source Development and Communications Coordinator) created a copy that gives a little background about Literacy Source and what they have been doing.

The layout of the card is specifically designed to draw the reader’s attention to all corners of the card. Starting with the most powerful message on the top of left page, “Literacy changes the course of a life”. The viewers then would read the quote from a student that is bolded and in blue. Followed by a short description about Literacy Source and an invitation to donate. Lastly, the demographics of the students in the right hand side of the card.

The back of the card is designed to be clean and straightforward, containing Literacy Source’s mission, logo, contact info, and supporter logos.
